INTRO

Hello team, we are making a Spec Commercial! Spec Commercials are a great way to show off what we can do, and attract more lucrative work. Our objective for this ad are 3 fold.

  • Show off our skill & creativity to agencies and companies.

  • Add high quality work to our portfolio

  • Demonstrate that we can create a stylish brand aesthetic that communicates a campaigns mood.

To accomplish these goals we need to have a clear understanding on the vision and motivations. Our film must be indistinguishable from a real commercial. As the saying goes, “The first rule of a spec project - it can’t look like a spec project”.

IDEA

The idea for this film is to make a running commercial focused on athletic apparel and fashion. The ideal client for this is a clothing brand who’s pieces are focused on stylish and practical aesthetics . The film will be a montage of groups posed together, groups running and everyone interacting with each other with cutaway scenes that show close ups of articles of clothing to highlight different features and fabrics.

MOOD

Here are the closest references I could find on the internet. Keep in mind that this doesn't necessarily mean we want to replicate them. What I do love about them is the coloring, professionalism and fun vibe.

TALENT

We are looking for 7 - 10 runners who can model or models who can run. Ideally everyone will be comfortable in front of the camera. We want to stick with a 20 - 35 age range if possible. There will be no lead character.

The coloring of this film will play a big part on conveying the mood of the project. We are aiming for a neutral but noticeable color pallet. The goal is to create well exposed and balanced images within the aesthetic of the project. We will then have a professional colorist who will enhance the pallet in post production to zero in on the mood. The majority of the commercial will be in the city. We will be shooting mostly in man made areas, i.e pavement, metal bridges, stairs…
